I've been in New York since October '03, working at an eco-cultural nonprofit called Green Map System. It's a global program that helps people make maps of ecological and cultural resources, in over 250 cities and towns around the world. I'm interested in urban ecology and eco-design, as well as sustainable food systems. At Dartmouth I spent some time as a geography major, then petitioned to graduate with an interdisciplinary major called Political Ecology. I get around town on a green bicycle.

Hello.

I'm an artist and arts administrator/educator currently living in Chicago. I recently graduated with an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and am currently working at Association House of Chicago, a social service agency. I am the Arts Program Coordinator at the Community Center. For many years now, I have been active in the arts community wherever I have lived and worked. I have worked in cultural organizations such as museums, community-based organizations, schools, and art centers. I am interested in hearing from others actively involved in the arts....

I believe art is transformative- it can empower youth and adults with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to actively create art that explores, celebrates, and challenges the community they live in. It is a powerful tool of communication and healing; helping to understand and express our shared fears and joys.

After Dartmouth, I taught for a year and then moved to DC to get a MA in Latin American Studies at Georgetown.
I am currently teaching Spanish and Debate in a semi-rural public high school outside of Fort Worth, Texas. (God has a sense of humor, doesn't she?) I also coach competitive debate and other speech events (prose/poetry/extemp), sponsor the Spanish Club and now, the newly created chapter of Amnesty International. At any rate, as a teacher every day I have a platform (my classroom)from which I can make kids think, open their minds, see things in different ways and hopefully inspire them to act--in order to change their world. I am also working with the Texan Democrats (no, it doesn't have to be an oxymoron :-) and have been very involved with the anti-war coalition, immigration advocate groups, and with several organizations focusing on Latino issues in this area. Although I am in Texas and not in one of the local chapters, please keep me posted and let me know how we can collaborate on different issues.

I'm transitioning out of working at The Food Project in Boston, MA. A wonderful organization that works to create personal and social change through sustainable agriculture, TFP works with teenagers from the city and suburbs to grow healthy organic produce. We work on land in the suburbs and city and about 35% of the produce goes to homeless shelters. I have been the Youth Program Coordinator and have run workshops about race, gender, sexual identity, and so on.
During the 2001-2002, I taught elementary school in the Marshall Islands.

The new book Courageous Souls: Do We Plan Our Life Challenges Before Birth? by Robert Schwartz (www.CourageousSouls.com) explores the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, before we’re born for purposes of spiritual growth. The book contains ten stories of people who planned physical illness, having handicapped children, deafness, blindness, drug addiction, alcoholism, losing a loved one, and severe accidents. The information about their pre-birth plans was obtained by four gifted mediums and channels, including one who has the ability both to see and to hear the dialogue we have with one another before we’re born. The book presents the actual conversations people had with their future parents, children, spouses, friends, and other loved ones when they planned their lives together. For readers, suffering that once seemed purposeless becomes imbued with deep meaning. Wisdom may be acquired in a more conscious manner; feelings of anger, guilt, blame, and victimization are replaced by acceptance, forgiveness, gratitude, and peace.

Author Bio

In a personal session with a medium in 2003, author Robert Schwartz was astonished to speak with nonphysical beings who knew everything about him - not just what he had done in life, but also what he had thought and felt. They told him that he had planned many of his most difficult experiences before he was born. Realizing that a knowledge of pre-birth planning would bring great healing to people and allow them to understand the deeper purpose of their life challenges, he devoted the next three years to studying the pre-birth plans of dozens of individuals. The extraordinary insights that emerged speak to our heartfelt, universal yearning to know . . . why.

Prior to his spiritual awakening, Mr. Schwartz was a freelance journalist for such publications as Life magazine and US News & World Report. He has also worked extensively in the corporate sector in marketing and communications. He holds a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University.

Chapter: San Francisco/Bay Area Chapter
I have had very little contact with the College or classmates since graduation but stumbled across this blog in an aimless late-night surf session and recognized, perhaps, an opportunity to communicate with some like-minded people. My political views tend to careen between the political poles from issue to issue (I guess you might call me an independent) but since my ultimate heartfelt goals for civilization call for the sacrifice of our doctrine of unrestrained economic growth as a means for promoting the greater good, I suppose, on the balance, that makes me a progressive.

I love Southern California, with its sun and beaches, yet ironically, I go to Dartmouth, which i love too though. I am a fast learner, intrigued by a number of topics, and would love to find an internship for the summer.
